Swedish Massage
The foundation of Western therapeutic massage, utilizing systematic effleurage (long strokes), petrissage (kneading), and tapotement (percussion) to promote circulation and parasympathetic activation. Ideal for first-time massage recipients or those preferring relaxation-oriented bodywork without intense structural focus.
Best For
- • First-time massage clients
- • General stress reduction
- • Sleep quality improvement
- • Light relaxation needs
- • Sensitive tissue types
- • Post-illness recovery
Technique & Method
Effleurage: Long, gliding strokes toward the heart to encourage venous return.
Petrissage: Lifting and kneading muscle tissue to increase local circulation.
Friction: Small circular movements to generate heat in superficial tissues.
Pressure & Sensitivity Notes
Pressure ranges from feather-light (for fibromyalgia or elderly clients) to firm but non-painful. Not recommended for those seeking structural realignment or chronic pain resolution—see Deep Tissue instead.
